Things to do in dubai in summer

You might be wondering if visiting Dubai during the summer months is a good idea. With temperatures soaring above 40°C (104°F), it's a valid concern. However, what many travelers don't realize is that this amazing metropolis has masterfully transformed itself into a year-round destination, offering an incredible array of indoor attractions and activities that make summer visits not just bearable, but thoroughly enjoyable so long as you don't mind being indoors.

Summer Safety Tips

Before we check out the cool activities, it's important to address the essential safety measures for navigating Dubai's summer heat. Your comfort and well-being should be your top priority, starting with hydration. Make sure to stay hydrated with plenty of water especially if you have to spend time outdoors.

The daytime heat can be unbearable, so planning your day strategically is crucial. Schedule any outdoor activities during early morning hours (before 10 AM) or after sunset (around 7 PM) when temperatures are more manageable. When it comes to clothing, opt for loose-fitting, light-colored garments made from breathable fabrics like cotton.

Don't forget to pack these essentials:

  • Sun protection cream.
  • Sunglasses with UV protection
  • A reusable water bottle
  • Portable fan or cooling towel
  • A wide-brimmed hat or even an umbrella if you have to go out in the sun.

Not like you can't find these things in Dubai anyway but it's better to have them prepared than not at all.

World-Class Indoor Attractions

So, what are the things to do in summer in Dubai? One of Dubai's greatest achievements is its collection of spectacular indoor attractions. Something that Dubai is really good at, is making excellent malls with loads of entertainment, shops and things to do while being equipped with AC.

Shopping and Entertainment

The Dubai Mall is a very popular tourist desination in itself, you have the Burj Khalifa (the worlds tallest building) just outside the Dubai Mall in Burj Park. You can book a tour to go to the top or you can simply stay outside in the park area of the mall and watch the Famous Dubai fountain for no cost.

The Dubai Mall has over 1,200 retail outlets, an ice rink, and a massive indoor waterfall, you could spend days exploring without stepping outside.

For a more luxurious shopping experience, head to the Mall of the Emirates. Home to designer boutiques and high-end department stores, it's also where you'll find the legendary Ski Dubai. At IMG Worlds of Adventure, five themed zones offer thrilling rides and attractions across 1.5 million square feet of air-conditioned space.

Don't miss the Museum of Candy, where interactive exhibits and Instagram-worthy installations celebrate everything sweet. It's a hit with both children and adults, offering a unique blend of entertainment and confectionery education.

The mall activities don't stop there, especially in the Dubai Mall. Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo are conveniently situated inside the center. Home to over 33,000 aquatic animals, you can walk through the 48-meter tunnel while sharks and rays glide overhead. For an extra thrill, try the cage snorkeling experience or glass-bottom boat ride.

At Play DXB in Dubai Mall, you'll find yourself immersed in a virtual reality wonderland. With state-of-the-art VR technology, you can battle zombies, explore virtual worlds, or race through futuristic cities. Meanwhile, Infinity des Lumières offers a mesmerizing digital art experience, where masterpieces come alive through 130 projectors across 3,300 square meters.

You can even get discounts on some of the attractions if you travelled by Emirates to get to Dubai. That's a good reason to keep hold of your Emirates Ticket for sure!

Besides the malls, there are plenty of other things to see and do in Dubai. Perhaps not a day trip but more of a stop by attraction is The Frame. A very piece of architecture which resembles a frame in which you can take a tour to go to the top. But this isn't for those who don't like height, the top features a see-through glass floor which looks both amazing and scary.

On the other hand, The Museum of the Future offers immersive exhibits that transport you to predictions of the year 2071. You'll see this if you're driving from Bur Dubai to or past the Dubai Mall area but this one can cost quite abit more than some the other attractions.

Unique Desert Experiences

Believe it or not, some of Dubai's most exciting summer activities involve snow and water. Ski Dubai offers a surreal experience of skiing in the desert, maintaining a cool -4°C temperature while the outside world bakes. Complete with chairlifts, penguins, and hot chocolate, it's a winter wonderland in the middle of summer.

The Green Planet brings the rainforest to the desert, housing over 3,000 species of plants and animals in a massive biodome. The temperature-controlled environment creates the perfect conditions for exploring tropical wildlife, including sloths, toucans, and butterflies.

If you love swimming, visit Deep Dive Dubai, the world's deepest swimming pool. Plunging to a depth of 60 meters, this facility offers diving experiences for all skill levels, complete with an underwater city to explore.

Dining and Nightlife

Dubai's culinary scene thrives year-round, with air-conditioned venues offering everything from street food to Michelin-starred experiences. At Atlantis The Palm, themed restaurants transport you to different worlds while you dine. Try Ossiano for underwater views or Nobu for world-class Japanese cuisine.

The city's rooftop lounges come alive after sunset, offering spectacular views with climate-controlled comfort. For an authentic experience, sample traditional Arabic cuisine at refined indoor establishments, where age-old recipes meet modern comfort.
